The city of Brussels is Belgium’s capital, comprised primarily of historic cobbled streets. I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Brussels a few weeks ago and, while I’ve been there plenty of times, discover some brand new parts that I think you’ll enjoy..
Start your morning at…Café Capitale: this place saved my butt more than once with its beautiful almond milk flat whites. It’s also got a beautiful little seating area which is great if you just want to take your time and watch the world go by!
Eat at…Moonfood Café: In case you’re new here, I’m super allergic to gluten and lead a primarily plant-based lifestyle too. Moonfood Café catered to these needs perfectly. I filled my plate with raw courgette based lasagne, veggie curries, plant-based sushi and more. Be sure to check it out if you can!
Take in the city at…the Grand Place and the Brussels Park: My friend and I spent one evening hanging out in the Brussels Park and another in the Grand Place just watching the world go by. Quite frankly, the Grand Place is one of the most exquisite places I’ve ever come across and is a great place to unwind after a day of exploring. Make like the other tourists (and the locals) and take some food and sit down on some steps, or just the ground in general.
Make use of…AirBnBs rather than hotels: While booking a hotel in Rome saved us time and money, it is well worth searching for an AirBnB in Brussels. We managed to find a place just of the Grand Place for relatively little money.
Beware of…the lack of gluten-free food: Though Moonfood Café was a godsend, it is quite difficult to eat gluten-free especially in Belgium as a whole. Make sure you research before you go.
Take a train and…spend the day in Brugge: Brugge is honestly one of my favorite places, and it’s just an hour’s train ride from Brussels. Public transport is ridiculously cheap compared to British public transport, so take advantage of it here! Be sure to wander up and down the cobbled streets, eat moules-frites (if you eat fish, that is), and to take a canal tour!
lovely pictures & that coffee looks delicious 😊 great post!
